Is that $203.41 USD? Seems to be overpriced. Wouldn`t it be cheaper to cross the border and purchase it at a Lowe`s Home Improvenment Center for $109.99 plus whatever duty taxes, if applicable, you have to pay going back?

I think that`s regular list price. CDN Tire sells it at that price. I got mine when it went on sale for $230 including tax a couple of summers ago, but I think there are other places which would be cheaper. I would go mail order from Coastal Tools for that kind of price.

I did a tax/duty in price price comparrison on the 7424 from Coastal and it came out close to the $263 but you didn`t need to buy the velcro disc and the counterweight was included. The killer is unless they mail it the UPS adds a brokerage fee etc etc.

I had to go to Spokane and I had Coastal drop ship it to a relatives there and cuz I was down 48 hours all I paid was exchange on the $$ so it worked out to - $150 Can

Not really.

I did a price survey of local Porter-Cable distributors here in Edmonton recently. I don`t have it in front of me but I`ll go by memory.

(all CDN $, before GST):

Canadian Tire: 7424 reg. $239.99, sale $179.99 (last on sale April 2003).

Home Depot: 7424 & 7336 were $204 and $214 (can`t remember which was which)

I also checked with places like Totem, Acklands, and House of Tools. They were all $230 or more. That price quote you got from RONA is higher than any of them.

But anyway, in the end I said screw it and ordered mine from Coastal Tools in the US (PC 7424 bonus kit $119 US). Coastal WILL ship via US Postal if you ask (so no brokerage fees). With US postal, our current exchange rate, and the fact you get the 6" counterweight and velcro backing pad, the Coastal Tool option is still the best way to go, even for us Canadians.

Can you cancel your order from RONA if its not too late?

Forgot about the PST.

Anyway, mine`s coming in the mail for about $177 CDN (incl. shipping). I just have to pay duty & GST on that when it gets here.

(and its already got the extra parts w/ the bonus kit).

Give us a heads up on the final total. It will be interesting to see. Canada post dinged me duty/gst on some polish I got from CMA. to the tune of $9 on a $25 US order.

Was yours from Coastal?

the reason i rather pay a bit more here is that, everytime i order something from the US. there always additional fee(brokage fee), and that is something you cant expect.

so, i rather pay more here since i know the exact price.

That`s why you ASK for US Postal Service shipments, instead of UPS and other couriers. When it comes via the postal service, all you`ll pay is GST (7%), duty (~6-7%), and maybe a $5 handling fee at most. (and maybe PST? in the other provinces). But NO brokerage fees.
