Who has a worthy cordless vacuum that they would reccomend? I have done the searches and looked around. Is there anything new on the market that Autopian`s are impressed with? I need something that will hook into the cigarette lighter or has a long battery life.

Great question and I`d love to hear positive comments as well. All the cordless ones I`ve tried were junk and I have just resolved myself to the fact that I need to use a big shop vac.

Yeah, I know. I have a 3.0 HP 6 gal wet/dry vac that I got from Lowes for $20 (holiday special). It works great but I am concerned when detailing on site that I may not have an electricity outlet to use.

My friend got this vacuum for Christmas and he swears by the thing. He lives in a condo so he got this cordless for vacuuming out his car without lugging around his upright with extension cords. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=8-2/qid=1073535873/ref=sr_8_2/602-4687865-1014259?asin=B000069BF8

I can`t vouch for it, but he`s pretty picky.:)

Make sure you notice all the people who`ve had the cordless EuroShark for a while...the battery doesn`t last. I know from personal experience. When I first got it, the battery would hold it`s charge for 20 minutes. Now it holds a charge for about 1-2 minutes max. I won`t buy another one.

I have a 12 volt Campbell-Hausen that is very similar to a hand held Dirt Devil. It has worked fine for the last 4 years or so. I found it at a Super Walmart.

I think in the next week or so, I`m going to stop in at Lowe`s or Home Depot and pick this bad boy up.

Scott, the RYOBI looks quite nice. I hate buying cheap crap that doesn`t last.

on the RYOBI:

An 18-volt cordless hand-held vacuum in a world of more and more increasingly cordless tools leaves this consumer wondering, “What took them so long?â€

Sucking power is excellent, I’d event place it in the realm of my Shop Vac in terms of dealing with little pieces of junk that lodge in my truck and in dealing with dusy-type pick-ups.

This tool saves me having to utilize my large shop vacuum for every little spill and pile of sawdust I may create. It’s certainly no replacement for such a large vac, but it does mean that areas that I normally lived with in terms of mess tend to be a bit cleaner. In fact, I do believe I may convince my wife to sit my truck someday soon. Noise level does not require hearing protection though I certainly am not going to tell someone to absolutely avoid their ear plugs.

now we`re talkin` !! http://www.celica.net/smilies/smilies/biggrinking.gif this thing sounds like a winner! Home Depot, here I come...

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to buy one soon, now maybe I`ll go look at the Ryobi.

DeWalt has this 2 gallon corded/cordless shop vac that I have been looking at for some time. The battery is extra but, it appears that if you already have a 12-18v DeWalt cordless tool you can use those batteries with this unit. Anyone have or used one that can comment? I have had pretty good luck with DeWalt cordless tools and am hoping this is of the same quality.

I too bought the euro shark and was very impressed with it at first but it seemed like it started getting weaker and weaker every time I used it. I thought I was going crazy. I put in storage for about two months and now it only runs for about 5 seconds and dies. Eurovac shark:down

UPDATE:

I hit Home Depot at lunch and grabbed the Ryobi 18V unit http://www.ryobitools.com/product/img/threequartermed/VC180WDmd.jpg.. ...it was $50 and seems very heavy for a dust buster. i found it in the tool crib area. I then went to the shop vac isle in search of the HEPA/GORE TEX filter for my shop vac vacuum....did not find that but did see a whole bunch of different shop vacs and dust busters.

So, I saw the same 18V Ryobi that I purchased, they also had a 7.2V Ryobi which appeared to be a light duty version. Could not see the price. I saw the DeWalt pictured above and it appears to be high quality piece but there was only a display model and no price (of course). It appears the battery charger and battery are not incl which would immediately dissuade me. It is a substantial unit but I really wonder how long it would last on batteries.... for someone that already has DeWalt equipment with the same battery config, it might be a no-brainer. :nixweiss

There were also a few more dust busters. One was labelled Dust Buster for Auto so maybe that was more HD than the household version...I dunno. Lots of choices none the less. :)

Was the battery unit included w/ the Ryobi? How much did you pay and can you let us know how it goes?

yes, the Ryobi unit is complete....even a few attachments are incl. I have not yet opened the box but will try to snap a few pix this evening so we can examine the contents.

I have a Ryobi cordless hedge trimmer. I bought it about 5 years ago and it is a great tool. I cannot say the battery has lost its capacity over the years either. it works great and I suspect this lil` dustbuster will also be a quality tool.

I`ve never been a fond of dustbusters...have always found them to be completely inadequate and junk that should be banished to a hiding place under the kitchen sink in my mother`s kitchen.
