Hi all,

I do have some examples of some bad scratches of my dad`s car.

He`s got some bad scratches on his trunk. I most certainly am going to use my PC 7424 but my question is :

For bad scratches do I use a product like Menzerma IP, Meguiar`s PPC, or 3M Fine Cut and then 3M SMR ?

or shall I try to hide the scratches first using 3M SMR ?

I ask because I do not have too much SMR left < sigh >

thanks

try 3m fine cut, then follow up with smr. even menzernas ip followed up with smr or menzerna final polish should work. If that doesn`t work, then youll need a rotary buffer to get them out.

3M FCRC or the IP with a yellow cutting pad, followed by the FCRC or SMR with white pad.

I used the 3M Fine Cut on a few scratched areas and some deep water spots. I applied it by hand until the sctatches/spots were uniformly hazed over.I followed with the 3M SMR / Yellow Pad, Megs #9/White Pad. Worked well.

Naturally you want to do as little as possible to get rid of the scratches. Check out the pics of what I did to the tractor in the detailings section. And don`t be afraid of wool pads. I`ve found them to be the easiest pads to control despite their aggressive cut ability. I used 3M rubbing compound followed by 3M SMR on 16-17 year old red and you can see the results.

I aggree with the 3m as I found that very good for removing scratches. Just don`t buff off the clearcoat with the buffer.

I dont know that you`re going to be able to remove all of those with the PC. Certainly make them look better but...

Interested to see how it comes out ;)
