Pros and Cons of fluorescent diffusers

Finally getting ready to hang some lights in the garage. I`ve seen pictures of several of you guys` gargares and some have diffusers, and some don`t. Are there reasons why you would or would not want them?

Diffusers take away the ‘harshness’ of bare fluorescent light. You might prefer an ‘egg-grate’ type of diffuser, light is diffused but not muted. Just a thought
