More Poorboy`s testing

In addition to Poorboy`s EX, I now have my hands on Poorboy`s Polish with Carnauba, SSR1 and 2, Natty Paste Wax and spray and shine.



I haven`t done much with SSR1 and 2 yet, but I`ve been playing around with the polish and paste wax. The combination of the polish, EX and Natty Wax seems to be pretty good on paint already in good shape (ie, needs nothing more than a light polish). The abrasives in the polish seem to be pretty light, so it mostly is good for cleaning the paint instead of removing imperfections. All three products go on and off very easily, very similar to Vanilla Moose or S100 in that respect. The polish hazes very quickly and can be applied and removed a panel at a time. The EX Sealant takes a few minutes to haze, so I`ve been applying it to the whole vehicle then going back around and removing it. There doesn`t seem to be a need to let it dry for a long time, even today when it was in the mid 50s. The Natty Paste Wax goes on easily and is almost clear (like S100 is). It seems softer than S100 though which makes it easier to use too much product. It has a very wet look which is noticable when you apply it to one panel then look back and forth between that panel and one without the wax on it.



My main reason for trying the Poorboys line is that while I am very happy with Meguiars, Clearkote and S100, I wanted something with a carnauba look with more durability for winter. Final Polish and Winner`s Choice both look real nice, but look better with a carnauba topper. If someone only wants to pay for a two step exterior job, I`d rather use a stronger polish than is in Final Polish and Winner`s Choice Finishing Creme is not abrasive, so if the paint needs polishing in a two step, no topper. With either Vanilla Moose or Poorboy`s Polish, I can top with EX and have a more traditional carnauba finish with (hopefully) durability more in line with a regular sealant.



So far, I like the look and ease of use. Time will tell on the durability. In any event, I must say that Steve has been a pleasure to deal with, not only through e-mails but also his participation on the board in clarifying how to use his products without pushing them.

1997 Mercedes SL500, did this one today in 55 degree weather, no long wait for EX to haze. The owner kept running her hand across the paint and saying how nice and slick it felt.

DOH! Forgot about Spray and Wipe! This is a great product when the vehicle is too dusty or has light water spot/sap that a CaliFornia Duster and QD can`t quite handle, but you don`t want to bust out the hose or mix up some QEW. Honestly, I was suprised at how easy S & W was to use and it may come in handy on my own car in the winter since shorter days mean even less time to devote to my car.

Actually, she. ;) Very attractive, I might add, probably explains the extra effort on my part! She works at a headquarters for a sorority, which means a lot of attractive ladies work there. I`ve been doing cars on and off for the lady who is the boss and some of the employees there for quite some time. Best all? Most of them have `cute` type cars, so no massive SUVs!




How is the longevity of the PB wax products?



According to the bottle of Poorboy`s EX, 6 to 9 months, but I`ve only been using it for a few weeks. Some others have used it longer, maybe they will chime in with their real world experience. My understanding is though that if you use the Poorboy`s Polish first, then EX, the durability is noticably better.

Not knowing a thing about Poorboys, but being a person that likes to sample new products, which items within the PB product line look promising?

Hope to hear your thoughts on the SSR1. For me, this is a very nice light SMR product. Seems to produce an excellent gloss and a very slick surface. As with the rest of Steve`s products, it`s also user friendly.



On a durability note............ I find the PWC to be a bit more durable than the EX, and EX over PWC to be extremely durable...... however, I can`t validate the 6 to 9 months claim, as I never leave stuff alone for that long.



Anyhow, on my personal vehicle (to many steps for a clients car), I find that cleaning with PP, SMR with SSR1, a coat of PWC, 2 x EX, and topping with Natty`s produces an incredible looking finish. Regular QD`s with FD seem to just make it even better.

The Polish w/carnauba, the EX Sealant and the Natty Paste Wax are all very good products based on my initial impressions. I haven`t used the swirl removers enough to have an opinion on them and I like the Spray and Wipe, good product if you are in a hurry and the dirt on your car is too much for a QD but not yet enough for a complete wash. Probably good to have in an emergency as well, like for bird bombs and tree sap. It isn`t as slick or glossy as Quikshine, but it does clean very effectively.





White_F150-thanks for the info. I`m still new to Poorboy`s products and it helps when those who`ve used them for a while offer tips that have worked for them. Just FYI, Poorboy`s EX on top of Clearkote`s Vanilla Moose = :bow

I have found that EX is good for about 3 - 4 months before it starts fading. Nevertheless, I really like EX and use it with VM. I am also a fan of S&W mixed with QS.



I just ordered SSR1 & SSR2. I look forward on trying these products on my wife`s Mustang.

I`m wondering the same thing about the Natty Wax. I just got an order in of the PB Polish and EX so I`m going out into the garage and test it on the trunk lid.

PWC works great. Now are you saying that you just wiped it on, let it haze then buffed it off?



I also find it similar to VM also with more of a cleaning property. I used both VM and PWC on a oxidized, waterspoted vinyl by hand very little pressure, not to marr the vinyl, the VM removed the slight oxidiation but didn`t touch the waterspots but PWC removed both.

Natty wax is Poorboy`s new paste wax, I don`t think it available on his site yet.
