Hey guys, I`m going to buy a PC in the next few weeks and tackle my Explorer, which is swirled pretty bad. The paint is 8 years old but is in pretty good condition. I`ve used SMR on it by hand to try to remove the swirls, but it really didn`t do much.

After doing a lot of searching, I think I`ve come up with a process that should remove my swirl problem. I also want to start layering a polymer sealant on, with S100 as a topper.

1. Dawn wash

2. Clay with Clay Magic

3. DACP

4. 3M SMR

5. Meguiars #20

6. S100

Does this look like a winner? Also, any other suggestions for a good polymer sealant would be appreciated.

Skip the dawn wash, just use a good car wash soap. Other than that, looks good. Are you using machine or by hand?

I want to start from scratch. I thought the Dawn wash would take off all of the S100 and other products that I`ve tried.

I`ll be using a PC.

Claying will do that anyway.

OK so change #1 to Megiuars Gold Class?

that or whatever car wash soap you have. If you want, just use a more concentrated dose of the car wash if you want to cut the wax a little.

btw, #20 is a great polymer, but like klasse aio, i would apply it twice to make sure you lay more polymer down then top with s100.

Ok will do. Do you guys recommend AIO or #20?

You are waiting your pc so I would recomend one change in #4.

I would use 3M PIII MG instead. This will remove all the swirls and scratches that DACP left. I used that procedure in both my cars and with great results.

Don`t you want to polish to a mirror look before #20?

The polish is optional it is just for look.

You have a point. What polish do you recommend?

I am a big fan of Menzerna Final Polish.

Read the instructions. You have to use 50-50 alcohol-water solution to remove the residue. If you don`t do that it will be very dificult. The results will be great. YOu can use a white pad or just the gray/black pad if you only want the look.

I love Menzerna Final Polish !!!

Is there anything that is similar and is more user friendly?

Wash, clay, wash again.

Strip wax: Megs APC+ at 64:1 ratio or alcohol/water spray.

DACP with cutting "finger" pad on a PC

SFP or 3M PIII-MG with white polish pad

#81 Hand Polish with grey finish pad or Megs beige pad.

#20

S100

The cutting pad may leave a haze. Follow with Megs SFP or #9 or 3M PIII-MG.

For really shinny look, you can`t beat #81! I feel it`s better than #7 in ease of use and results.

The #20 has a slight cleaning ability as it preps the finish for the sealant.

Top with S100, step back and enjoy the shine!
