Hi all - I am planning to use the 3M SMR for dark color cars this weekend. I am applying by hand and have read that it should be applied in a straight line motion (back & forth) none of the `wax on wax off` - circuler(sp) motion.(karate kid nonsense)

I plan on using the viking pads(ones with the hand grip). Is that ok or is the consesus around here to use the terry pads???

Thanks :bounce :bow

I usually apply SMR with a folded terry cloth. The terry cloth creates more friction than foam and helps break down the product. Give it a try. Good luck....Andrew

My votes for a terry cloth cvered foam pad.

Good luck with your SMR project I`m sure you`ll like the results.

If your going to apply by hand I would use cotton (doesn`t matter if it`s foam or cotton, I prefer cotton) but more importantly; try to find a very comfortable applicator. I have big hands and my hand gets that "charlie horse" feeling in no time. Wicked annoying when your detailing by hand because it takes so long.

Will there be any problems if I decide to use the viking foam applicators with the hand grip???
