Here are some shot of a PTCruiser with the vinyl woody decal I did last week:

I detailed this about a year ago and I don`t think they`ve done anything to it since! The whole thing was full of water spots, the vinyl was oxidized and the wheels had baked on brake dust..nothing I had would make a dent in the wheels except for a combo of P21S gel wheel cleaner and claybar, it took me about 2 hours just to do the wheels!!

I used:

claybar

Poorboys polish w/carnauba

EX

Clearkote Carnauba Moose

I applied the CMW with very little pressure, thinned with QD in hopes the PD in the CMW wouldn`t strip the EX..I`ll see how long it lasts.

Here are the wheels before:

2 hours just to do the wheels?!? If I encounter wheels that are that bad I just use straight acid, it comes right off.

Great job:xyxthumbs

2 hours for wheels? That is nuts! Some A 2 Z would of taken care fo those in 5 minutes. :D

Great Job, I have a cruiser and I can atest to the fact that brake dust is a PIA. I used A2Z but then I have never waited as long as your customer. Recently I replaced the front pads with ceramic pads.

BTW what did you use on the water spots on the decal?

TIP: Try brake cleaner in the spray can for the tough jobs and then follow with your wash.

Thanks everyone!!

I used PB Polish w/Carnauba on the door handles..it worked great for both the handles and vinyl.

The thing about the wheels is they are a chrome plated plastic face mounted on the wheels..kinda like a hub cap but permanent and didn`t want to take the chance of ruining them.....any worse then they were.

I`ll have to try some A2Z, thanks :xyxthumbs

I agree with you the wheels are clear coated but brake cleaner evaporates very fast. I used to wash with A2Z and then for the tough spots I would spray a terry with brake cleaner and rub. The cleaner does not seem to damage the clear coat.

BTW Thanks for your post, I can remember having a disagreement with a member who did not believe the wheels are coated.

good luck

The brake dust on these PT`s are horrible. After doing this one I noticed that 90% of all the PT`s I see now have baked in brake dust on their wheels.

These aren`t clearcoated they are chrome plated plastic..I didn`t realize it until I was cleaning them and felt the lip of the plastic on the inside of the wheel, then I tapped on it and it had that plastic hub cap sound. That`s why I didn`t want to try anything stronger then the P21S gel.

BTW where can you pick up some A 2 Z?

A 2 Z can be purchased from just about any parts store. It comes in an orange clear bottle.
