I tried using the search engine for finding what type of lubricant to use with a clay bar (Zaino). My searches were for lubricant, clay, claybars but nothing seemed to turn up and I know I`ve seen the threads.

My question is what is safe to use as a lubricant with the claybar?

You can shampoo with no problems.

Dulited dar wash shampoo in a spray bottle. Zaino recommends their quick detailer (QD) Z6. Any QD should be fine also.

From the Zaino website:

We suggest mixing one cap full of Z-7 Show Car Wash with water in a 16 ounce spray bottle. Z-6 also works as a lubricant for Z-18 ClayBar, but Z-7 Show Car Wash is much more cost effective.

save your $$$, use car wash mixed with distilled water(no minerals) in a qd bottle as a lubricant.

soapy water in a spray bottle works great.

Why do you guys even go throught the trouble .....

Wash your car, while rinsing, clay with the hose water.....No need to use a QD (waste of $$), or another clean bucket of water and soap, or sprayer.....you have to rinse anyway, cut your process and time down with the rinse......

Patrick,

I don`t recommend using water alone. Clay is abrasive and requires lubrication to "cut" without damage. A bucket of soapy water is a great way to clay after washing. I recommend keeping a soapy wash mitt in one hand to apply lubrication while you clay with the other. Done this way, you can clay a mid-size car in a matter of about 10 minutes.
