View Full Version : Interior Cleaning at Night, how much light?
I`ve been trying to do BLACK interior cleaning at night in my garage. On the ceiling I`ve got a couple of 4` two bulb florescent lights and three 60W incandscent bulb fixtures. The interior is like a cave! I pulled out my 60W incandscent work lights. I tried pointing them into the interior but once I got in the car, my body caused lots of shadows. So, I clipped the lights on to the oh sh*t handle. You know the handles that are attached to the ceiling. That helped but there were still lots of shadow. When I looked at the interior yesterday afternoon, I notice I missed spots. Yeah, I know I need more light in the garage.
How do you folks sufficently light the interior for night time cleaning? :bow

High pressure sodium bulbs maybe about 10 in you garage...Just kidding of course :)

Flashlights :) dual 500 watt halogens may be good but get hot! and it still will not illuminate corners and nooks and crannies.
www.arcflashlight.com for a really bright LED line of lights, no need to change bulbs. I have an Arc AAA LE.
www.streamlight.com I have a Scorpion and Twin Task 1L.
I would think a Streamlight Twin Task will help you out because its durable, lasts a long time and you have the choice of using a incandescent when needed but mainly using the LED`s for long run time and interior illumination.
LEDs seem like the way to go because with an LED on a dark night with adapted night eyes, dust and dirt show up like crazy.
Arc AAA LE - uses one AAA battery, really bright, and lasts about 5 hours on regulated full brightness and 6 hours on dimming brightness. I left mine on for 11 hours with usable light before it dimmed to a glow.

flashlights, hmmm. Now if you tape a flashlight to your spray bottle and vacuum hose, that`s a sign of a true Autopian :). Or one of those lights that you strap to your forehead!
Maybe one of those portable battery powered or corded mini fluorescent lamps? Those are more designed for area illumination I think, and then you could move them around or put them in places where`d you get a lot of shadows.

I use a (several) 13V fluorescent worklight from Lowe`s/Home Depot. Two of them on "the oh sh*t handle" handle most of my interior needs. Rest the handle on the seat to prespot carpets.
Great for overall inspections.
Best feature? Little heat buildup. Leave it laying on a seat without worry...
Don`t remember the cost. 15-30 bucks each. Worth it. Don`t drop it!

I`ve got one of those lights you strap to your head. It`s great for working on things in dark areas. I don`t know if it has enough power.

The second one, Griot`s actually has it for $10 LESS. But it`s in yellow. I thought all of Griot`s stuff had to be red? :nixweiss
