I ran out of clay bar lube and want to make some of my own rather than buy more. I remember an old post, which I can no longer find, that clay bar lube can be made by mixing car wash shampoo with water. I am planning on using Meguiar`s Gold Class shampoo.

Does anyone know the proportions of shampoo and water? e.g. 1 oz shampoo to 15 oz water or whatever.

Is it necessary to use distilled water, or will tap water do?:D

Do what I do, clay while you wash the car. The car shampooi is a great lubricant and this process saves a TON of time!

you can use distilled water and car soap if u desire, its probably better anyway bc the streaks won`t be as bad on the car after your done claying. Thats what i usually use, then wash the car off afterwards. After that, make sure you use a paint cleaner to prep the finish for the wax.

Thanks a lot guys. I tried claying with car shampoo and regular water as a lube and it worked great. There was no need to use anything special. Why didn`t I think of that?
