View Full Version : Is it necessary to wash the car with soap & water?

I have only washed my car with soap and water twice since I`ve had it, first when I picked it up in Jan, and then washed with the Zaino car wash in June, before applying my 7 layers of Z2/Z5. I topped that with S100. I rewax with S100 about once a month. I quick detail mine so often (nearly every day), that it doesn`t get dirty, or surface contaminants. Is it necessary to wash or not? Here`s some pics to show what kind of condition it`s always in :D :bounce

Well, if your car never gets wet, why get it wet? :)

However, for many of us, rain is not optional, it comes almost every day. :p That`s why we wash. If you are able to keep your car clean without washing, so much the better. And your car looks great.

Hehe, :) After it gets rained on, I just dry it off with a few towels when I get home, takes about 15 mins but it`s worth it so I don`t have to go back later and give it a full wash. I`m loving the weather we`re having now in Ga, no rain predicted for almost 2 weeks! :bounce :up

I`m using ClearKote`s Quik Shine. I`m just about out of it! I sent in my order form with a check about a week and a half ago, waiting on two quarts of it. I love this stuff, best QD I`ve used. It really enhances the paints color and makes an awesome shine. Their website: http://www.clearkote.com For some reason it won`t let me buy online . . . I get an error in IE everytime I hit "submit"

STEEDA-you need to go to www.clearkote.net not .com. I don`t know the whole story, but Mr. Glass no longer owns the .com site so everything is now on the .net site.

BTW, your car looks great! If you never get it dirty enough to require normal washing, dusting and QDing will work fine.

Well car looks great! From time to time I do the QD route instead of washing but thats not too often.

The problem with never washing is that you will have dust and dirt build up in lots of strange places, that are best removed with water.

Of course any serious amount of dirt is best removed by washing it off with water versus dragging it off while doing a QD.

Very good point JB, I probably have a bunch of dirt and dust in places I can`t see. :o hehe. Thanks for that info Scottwax, that explains why I couldn`t order online, doh! :)
