I found this beauty while cruising the detailing forum in my car club`s board.

Carnauba has nothing to do with the shine on your vehicle.

Carnauba is for protection.

The shine is from oil additives.

Most common is silicone oil.

Then parafin oil and banana oil in natural waxes.

Oils produce the shine.

People have used Pledge on their cars for shine.

Pledge is silicone oil.

Synthetic polymer sealants such a Zaino,Liquid Glass and others usually do not have oil in their make up.

Shine lasts much longer and protection is much better too.

Mike Pennington, director of training for Meguiars in a April 2000 issue of Motor Trend in an article named "Paint Care Myths and Reality"

Pennington, todays synthetic polymer technology actually provides better protection than carnauba.

Meguiars makes a synthetic polymer protectant products..

I love Zaino.

Liquid Glass is also a synthetic polymer sealant.

Carnauba is a dinosaur.

Nothing like referring to a three year old article that was most likely completely taken out of context. Good thing Meguair`s doesn`t sell any carnuaba waxes..

Link to Article (not to discussion) (http://www.speed.com.sg/SpeedMag/features000.shtml)

The first paragraph quoted in the post (in blue) is nowhere in the article (granted, it my be a different article with the same title). Actually, only one sentence in the quoted post appears in the article, where Pennington says that modern polymers provide better protection.

The rest is opinion, and you can`t argue with opinion.

I don`t think there is any dispute as to whether or not quality polymers and synthetics outlast carnubas...they do. The only real question is which look do you personally prefer.

True to some extent.

I find that Megs #20, a sealant has cleaners, resin, and wax in it.

Odd that #20 also contains wax AND resin.

Kina reminds me of a similar product, EX, but the #20 will last longer.

Sure, try #7 glaze... loaded with oils and it makes the finish very wet looking.
