obviously you would use dawn to cut your old wax off the car before a polishe/glaze/wax sequence. my question is i have all that done and just want to wash my car and not take my wax off or at least not all of the wax. what do you guys use instead of dawn??

I only use dawn once a year when I start over and some do not use dawn at all (too harsh).

Use Meguiars gold class about 10 dollars a gallon at Target. Cleans good and very good lubrication which helps to avoid scratches.

good luck

If you have a carnuaba wax as a topper, a good carnuaba wash will help rejuvenate the existing wax...add a little shine to it.

I never use Dawn anymore, now that I use AIO. Prior to that I had always used Mother`s Pre-Wax Cleaner. Because of all the talk about Dawn on Autopia, I tried it for a while. Didn`t like it. It was obvious to me that a strong Dawn wash does not remove all waxes, especially ones with some polymer formulation like #26. In fact, I doubt Dawn removes any #26 at all, unless you apply undiluted Dawn directly to the surface. If you`re going to do that, you might as well spray Simple Green directly on your paint. Undiluted Dawn has almost the same pH I think.

Anyway, I use a strong solution of car soap (twice the normal amount in water) and then use a paint cleaner like AIO, or Mother`s (or PPCL, GEPC, etc. etc.) and then you are good to go.
