My Aston at the annual Lime Rock concours. There was an amazing number of very high quality restorations and I’ll know the judging results in a week or so, couldn`t stay for the awards dinner. I have a few other photos if anyone is interested

Looks awsome. I`m becoming a fan of the marque!

I would LOVE to see some more pics, David. The cars are spectacular.

We have a few Astons in our Jag club and I just love them. I can spend hours just admiring engine and cockpit details.

We had a friend who worked as a "lead-man" (laying molten lead into body seams and doing body work) at the factory in the `50`s. He would tell us tales of how each car was so different and if he were to take a template from one side to the other it could be as much as 3/8" off! One door would never fit another car without body work, etc. Each panel done by eye. Hand craftmenship! Pretty wild in this day of sterile robots.

Thanks Brad

Yes Astons tend to be very individual and body panels must be hand fitted. Just replacing a winshield can be a challenge. Sadly the days of the hand made Aston are gone (well maybe not so sad as Aston might actually be profitable for the first time in their history ;-)). Anyway some pics of the concours.

Anybody have 2 million dollars

Brad

Is there a way to attach more than one pic per post?

I`m off to Newport Pagnell next summer. I hope to see cars of similar quality during my visit. Stunning cars.

aston6- a belated thank-you for the great pics! I too would like to see more.

The handcrafted (to the point of being asymmetrical) nature of the earlier Astons has always been part of their appeal to me. True "personality", each of them virtually a bespoke car.

OK, I`ll admit I can`t tell for certain which model yours is...looks VERY VERY nice, though. Care to fill us in on it?

And gee, a *LHD* shooting brake...

Interesting how similar the Aston and Jaguar engines are. This is a pic of my XK 150 engine. Also a straight six, dual overhead cam. Mine is in street form but for racing they installed triple Webers just like the Aston shown. Cool stuff.

To install more than one image simply hit the "insert image" button again. It will prompt you for another url. This is assuming you have your pictures loaded on a picture service somewhere.

My car is a 1967 DB6 left hand drive, 5 speed, factory A/C, and the webasto sun roof is from a DB6 that was being parted out and was a factory option. There are some other pictures in the gallery.

Brad

I also have an 87 XJ6 and the two engines are similar in shape but the Aston engine is all Aluminum with steel liners. Interestingly there is another thread regarding concurs and lining up screws, this is something that was done when the car was originally assembled. On the other hand all the concurs I participated in originality was much more important then absolute cleanliness, the cars are encouraged to be driven and a little dirt from driving is of no consequences.

PS brad that engine bay is stunning!

anyway on to the last of the pics from the show

Thanks! I`m NOT very knowledgeable about Aston Martins, much as I like them. Yours sounds like a VERY nicely equipped one!

When you say "originality" is highly valued, I have to wonder- are there are many UNrestored Astons that get shown? Just curious, as I`m a sucker for orignal paint on such cars, even when it`s a bit, uhm, imperfect.

How`s your XJ6 holding up?

AHA! I KNEW I`d seen that shooting brake somewhere before (well, I THINK it`s the same one).

Made for the French market, 1 of 5 LHD`s, once offered for sale in Los Angeles at 145,000 english pounds.

Heh heh, I`m a sucker for cool wagons...thanks again for the pics.
