Can you rent these things? Anyone know of someplace in San Francisco?

For the cost of renting it, you may as well buy one for yourself.

They are not that much money, and you`ll continually want to use it.

Here`s where you can purchase one: Porter Cable cheap (http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/port/pr7424.htm?L+coastest+lcls7456ffbb32bb+1058496012)

You know you want one!

I bought mine from Coastal tools for $119 at that price I`m not sure why it would be economical to rent.

I just bought a PC from Coastal Tools as well. Got it this past Tuesday. Can`t beat the price. Now I just have to get the pads and products(wax...)

if you wanted one for the purpose of trying so you`re convinced to buy one, I would try a home depot tool rental or lowes tool rental... they probably have them, but I don`t know if they`re set up as sanders or polishers (diff. backing plates)
