It`s my understanding that both CMA and TOL get their pads from Lake Country Mfg. I ordered my 6.5" pads from TOL (saved about a buck per pad vs. CMA pricing), and they`re doing the trick for me with a PC. But these are the 8" pads, so let`s count on some other Autopians posting their experience here.

I use the TOL pads (the 8") and they work fine. I also have a set of 6" when I need to do more concentrated work.

I just bought those same pads locally, yesterday, for $9 each; manufactured by a company called "Edge", right? The colorcoding for cutting ability is different, though; isn`t a black CMA/Lake pad a finishing pad? A black Edge pad is a heavy cut pad. No matter, it says what it is on the rear of the pad.

Also; THIS PAD MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM THE ONES REFERRED TO IN THE OTHER THREAD. I just went down to the garage and measured it, the 6.5" backing plate of the PC is indeed 1" smaller than the back of the pad; notice, the TOL site says "requires the 7.5" velcro backing plate". In the referenced thread, posters mention a total pad diameter of 7.5", these are more like 9".

I personally don`t think it will make any difference, and I intend to use them with the 6.5" plate, but I haven`t actually done that yet. From what I understand, they are regarded in the paint / auto body industry as a high quality pad.

I just got 3 of them (form a fellow Autopian member, thanks!.)

My initial impression. The blue one is pretty darn soft, maybe a touch softer than the black finishing. As for manufacturer, I think its a private labeled Lake Country Mfg. thing going on. I do see the green and blue metnioned somewhere on the Lake Country Mfg site, and the yellow seems the same as my yellow.

The hole in the center of the Edge Buffing pads scares me a bit, but should not be a problem. They are pictured below.

EDIT: Picture is supposed to say Lake Country Mfg.
