Do any of you detail airplanes? I know that when you do a boat you usually charge by the foot, but a plane is a little more complex than that. My brother works at a private airport back east and their hangers have Gulfstreams and other high end private planes like that. He says that the detailing company that goes in there can charge upwards of 3 grand to detail a Gulfstream IV. That seems like a lot of money, but then again it is at least a fifteen million dollar aircraft. I was thinking about learning a bit about airplanes and what kind of sensors and things like that which need to be avoided. I would hate to polish over some sensitive area and cause a safety hazard.

Anyway, do any of you detail planes? What kind of training should I look for before I attempt doing something like that? Would a basic college course in avionics do the trick, or is there some other kind of training that I would need to attend? It seems like an interesting market that is most likely not saturated with business offering services. I dunno though... Its an interesting idea that I`d like to sort of look into.

Thanks for the thread, but in typical Autopian fashion there was more post whoring than relevant information. Autopia can be a helpful enough place, but you have to wade through 20 posts of "That is sweet" before you get anything helpful. That`s why I posted it here. I figure that the thread would probably stay more on point over here.

Joe from Superior Shine may chime in. He`s done several, and has a source/book for pricing. IIRC, an average Lear 30 series would be $900-1100, in and out.

I detailed a smaller twin engine 6 seater inside and out for $400 if I remember correctly. It took me about 9 hours worth of work and it was for my neighbor who told me the things to avoid and such. I`ll be putting up a brochure and some business cards at the office that`s at the airfield where he has his plane hangered at.
