how to start the exterior detail?

before i clay my car should i wash the car with car soap, or dish soap like dawn, ive read diffrent things diffrent places im not not sure wats best? i wanna make sure i get all the old wax off so i can start with a clean slate :) thanks

use car soap...
then clay it (be sure to use a lube)
The cleaner will remove the previous wax

I`ve used Dawn dishsoap when stripping a car clean , haven`t had any problems. When washing go with th ebody lines and not circles, in case you didn`t know. You could cause swirls and scratches if dirt is trapped in your washcloth.
