I`m wondering if it would work well to use a flannel receiving baby blanket, as they seem very soft and made to be gentle for babies with no harsh chemicals etc., and they are very absorbent. Has anyone ever used these?

Well, aside from the fact that flannel isn`t very tough and would lint all over the place... on second thought, I don`t think it would make a very good towel. It just depends on what kind of multi purpose you are talking about. I doubt they would survive long as a grease rag and I certianly wouldn`t dry my car with one. I`m not sure what other use they would have where the linting issue wouldn`t be a problem.
