Finally got some time to have a go at removing the swirls on my car. It`s a flamenco black perl 98 Prelude. washed it, then clayed. Then I used 3m rubbing compound with the yellow advanced pad, followed by 3m smr, then meguiars polish (from their 3-step) and gold class. Finished up with a layer of s100 to top it all off.

now for the pics:

very amazing difference from before, without the swirls on the car, the blackness (no other way to describe it) is amazing :shocked

got a cf hood after an accident, found price of a stock hood + paint was roughly equal to price of a carbon fiber hood :)

and of course the mandatory mirror shot:

When I first started with the RC, I loaded up the pad in no time, learned really quick that less is more (ditto with the smr).

wow, incredible! Those are the kind of results I`m trying to get by hand. (I have a considerable amount of paint damage right now)

how long did that take you with your PC? What do you think of the Gold Class and S100 combo...I have both and have been pretty pleased on my black car.

Actually, i did all that in three hours, since that was all the time I had free. As you would think, my whole body aches today, lol. I don`t particularly like gold class, mainly because it didn`t seem to last long at all when I used to use it alone (s100 on top lasts much longer). Also, gold class has very very high dust attraction properties (http://www.nebby.net/gallery/MyCar/dirty) in my experience (though i live in a very dusty area, which makes the difference very obvious between s100 and GC, i should do a half/half comparison to show the difference someday).

also, for some comparison, i found a picture that is about equal to the swirling action that was on my car. Though its a picture of my friend`s car, the amount was about the same as what my car had. This is what my before picture would have been.

also, i would highly suggest you invest in a porter cable. I had previously attempted to do the swirl removal by hand, and the results were rather unimpressive. On the other hand, using the PC with rubbing compound blew me away.

Great job Neb - - - :xyxthumbs

We`re in agreement about the PC. Well worth the investment both in improved results and in time saed!

Nice car! Not a fan of the hood though. But its not my car. :)

The paint looks awesome though, that fender pic is amazing. Great job.

Yea, the hood is "interesting", I`m not too much of a fan of cf hoods either, but it was a cheaper option than getting a replacement hood.

I might actually paint it over, with maybe a slight transparency so that when you look at it closely you can see the weave.

That would be interesting... Have like a holographic hood! I can see it now... It`ll be the new craze in the automotive world, holographic pictures in the sides of their cars. :lol
