So, there has been another thread another thread where several users have asserted that all OEM and bodyshop paint jobs are compounded. Unfortunatetly, no one has qualified their answers with --I used to work for Ford, etc. Can someone give a qualified answer please?

I am not intending to start a flame war, but it`s just that the answers in the other thread were bordering on insulting, without any real constructive answers.

The bottom line is that I really want to learn something here. So can someone in the know provide us some details on what how OEM paint jobs are done?

Thanks.

OE paints are not compounded. They go through the spray booth, then heat booth, and then down the assembly line.

Any imperfections in the paint are (generally) repaired/repainted at the end of the line during the QC check.

Some of the very high end paint jobs are. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls. Nary a spec of orange peel on them.
