Ok, the last of my antibodies that were fighting the autopia virus are long gone and I`m ready to purchase a Porter Cable. So I`m planning on buying the kit from Coastal Tool and I`m curious what everyone recommends for pads, backing plate etc. (everything else I need).

TIA!:wavey

This exact topic may be the most discussed in Autopia history. Please use the Search function and read thru the posts.

I entered the term "backing plate" and got back 16 pages of threads so clearly there is a ton of info here for you to learn from.

From what I`ve seen, usually people go for the CMA kit which I think includes the velcro backing plate and a nice assortment of pads.

Bret is right, the search function will give you tons of information.

But to answer your question. A backing pad, 1 grey (finishing) pad, 2 white (polishing) pads, and 1 or 2 yellow (cutting) pads, a wool pad, just in case you need to remove heavier swirls/scratches that can`t be undone by a yellow pad.

I use the PC 6" backing plate that comes with the coastal tool PC kit. It works great with meg`s 6.5" pads.

I got my 7424 from coastal. You`ll get a bonus kit which includes a 6" counter weight and a velcro backing plate. I got the advanced pad kit from CMA without the backing plate, the one from coastal works fine.

Do you guys prefer these CMA pads to the ones Meguiar`s offers? I know they have a Red cutting (w-7006), yellow polish (w-8006), and a finishing pad (w-9006).

I prefer the CMA pads because I have tried Meguiar`s pad`s and with the CMA backing having a really strong grip combined with Meguiar`s kind of weak glue, it ripped the velcro backing right off the Meguiar`s pad. I have been through 2 Meguiar`s pad that are now in the garbage, this is after some occasional use. I just dumped my two CMA polishing pads after 2 years of faithful and some pro use.

When I reorder my pads, it`ll be from CMA.

I used the search function before posting this thread, I was looking some current opinions on the pads everyone is using. Yesterday, I ended up purchasing because of past favorable reviews some 7.5 inch pads from CMA (2 yellow, 2 white). I hope I got the right stuff :o
