I see that Griot`s has the 7336 with the special cooling head for $199:rolleyes: But I can get it here for $108

http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/fullpres.exe?PARTNUM=820-858

for a lot less. Is that head worth it?

Also, What pads would you say would make up a good starter kit?

Should I buy more that one of each color?

Thanks again,

I got mine a 7424 from coastal, I think it was $119. It came with a 6" counter weight and velcro backing pad. First time I`ve used a used a PC, I was a little nervous, but it was great!

:p

I tried it on my daughter`s car first.

:D :D

If you get the 7336, you`ll still need the proper backing plate.

What model will come with the backing plate?

The 7424 from Coastal will come with a 6" backing plate, i believe. However, I`ve found that the standard pads from CMA are too small for this, as the edge of the plate will align exactly with the edge of the pad, possibly resulting in the plate hitting the paint during use. I`ve bought a 5" plate as well for these pads.

In hindsight this is what i wish i did:

-buy 7424 from coastal OR 7336 from lowes and a 6" plate from CMA

-Get only the 7.5" pads from CMA. People have also mentioned that the 7.5" pads are constructed better than the 6" pads.

-pads: two whites, two yellows. here`s how i`d distribute my usage:

yellow1: Finesse It II

yellow2: 3M SMR

white1: 3M SMR

White2: Klasse AIO

Here`s the link for the 7424 from coastal, I got the advanced pads from cma that are 7.5", they seem fine and there`s plenty of room between the end of the backing plate and the end of the pad.

The 7336 came with a fitted case, which would be nice, but I wasn`t willing to pay $30 more for it and then have to buy a backing plate for another $16.

Check out 4DSC`s thread on PC and accessories before you buy it:

I bought the 7336 from Loews (I had a 10% coupon so it was $90 + tax). Bought a velcro stick-on adapter for the backing plate ($3 and change). Ordered 7.5 inch pads from TOL (6/45$).

Cleanmaxx Brian- In case it wasn`t specifically addressed, the "cooling head" from Griot`s is just certain PC backing plate. As I recall, the holes are ACTUALLY for sawdust to go through when using it as a sander. Totally a non-issue with polishing.
