I have been thinking about getting a Porter Cable 7224/7336 polisher after reading everyone`s positive experiences with them. I presently have a GEM orbital polisher ( it uses terry bonnets, weighs 18 pounds and is a bear to use on vertical surfaces) and a Makita rotary polisher.

A neighbor of mine is a tool salesman and one of the product lines he carries is Porter Cable. I detail his two Volvos twice a year (spring and fall), and when he called me to have them done this spring, I asked him if he was willing to trade a PC for one of the details. He said "no problem, which one you want.. the 7224 or 7336?"

I just ordered the DM-kit from CMA... I think I am going to have fun! :spot

That`s awesome! You`ll definitely enjoy using it. Plus you can do a lot more prep work using the PC than by hand. That`s a great tradeoff!

the 7224 or 7336?

Just so I can get this straight, is the first one the DA buffer and the second the rotary?

I think he means 7424 as there is no such thing as a 7224 near as I can tell.

Both machine are orbitals and are exactly the same except for installed counterweights. The 7424 comes with a 5" CW and the 7336 comes with a 6". For most detailing needs the 7336 with the 6" works a little better but its not a big diff. I have both CW`s and can hardly tell a diff.

In my original post, I meant to say 7424...I have always been lousy with numbers!

Nice! :) Those GEM things are monsters! You`ll probably find the PC`s smaller velcro pad system a lot handier than the GEM.
