Hi all,

Has anyone got any tips on a similar machine to the fabled US Porter Cable. I`m in Australia, and the PC distributors don`t bring the machine in as it`s a 120V only device. I could get it retail and plug it into a transformer, but I was wondering if anyone out there have come across a similar random orbital like the PC in Australia or UK where it`s 240V.

It`s a bit pricy , but it has twice as much power and a rotating feature.

Thanks - I had a look on the Makita .au web site and it doesn`t look like we get this model in Oz. I`ll call them tomorrow and see. Great write up BTW.

Hey,

I got the Dewalt DW443 from Bunnings. If you find a good price for it take the add / print out in and they knock off 10%.

It beats the PC for power, but isn`t too powerfull (you aren`t going to burn through the paint like a rotary).

It comes with velcro backing and is set up so that the Meguiars 8006 polishing pad fits straight onto it.

I didn`t have to order anything from the U.S. or over the net.

You`ll be paying about AUD$350 for the lot.

Have a look at the PC web site, there is a section on International dealers, I cannot remember if there is anything for your part of the world. Or what I did was buy one from the USA and get a stepdown transformer 240 - 110 v.

hi

for the dewalt machine try there service dept who often have used, demo or serviced machines available with the same warranty as new goods.

I bought my 443 for $200 from them. I use it every day and never had a hint of trouble, even in those 35deg+ days of summer.

Thanks to all who replied. I bought a Hitachi on the weekend, and a couple of Meguires Buffing pads. Love the machine - I`ll post some pics in the next few days!

Ive just started using a Rupes Random Orbital. Now I know why they dominate the Professional market in Aust. Its a magnificent machine, better than the very good Dewalt 443 i think.

Bit pricey though..............expect to pay about $495 inc GST.
