Last Friday, prompted by a question about how I liked Nu Finish, I decided to do half of the hood on my truck with original Blackfire and half the hood with Nu Finish. While I was at it, I decided to try out a swirl remover. My truck is covered with swirls and scratches. So, I purchased a bottle of Meguire’s #9 and went to work on the truck with a foam pad an my cheapo random orbit buffer. There really are no directions on the bottle and I had not memorized any particular recommended technique, so I just worked it into the hood until it looked fairly dry. Then, I did half of the hood with the Blackfire Polish and Paint Protection and half with the Nu Finish.

The next day, I was amazed how much better the hood looked and felt. Both sides were as smooth and slick as I ever remember the hood being. I did not expect any difference between the two sides, and they did feel the same. However, the shine on the Nu Finish side was not as even, but I had not put the recommended second coat on yet. And I still havn’t.

But, the hood looked so good, I decided to do my Toyota. So I followed the same technique, but I only applied Blackfire Polish and Paint Protector. I expected great things this morning. Boy, was I disappointed. The car looked good, but not great. And, the surface was definitely lacking in slickness. This is what I didn’t like about the Blackfire. However, on the truck, it worked great. The only difference is the 2-year old Toyota paint versus the 6-year old Ford paint. It seems either of the two products I have been using work much better, at least to me, on the Ford than on the Toyota.

So, what’s my conclusion? I sure am happy with the Meguire’s #9, on both the Ford and the Toyota, and one application of Blackfire is better than one application of Nu Finish on the truck, but to be fair, I need to apply the second coat of the Nu Finish before I can definitely say if the Blackfire is really worth it. After that, I will try to get a decent picture to post.

And. . . I am just going to have to buy the Klasse twins to try on the Toyota.:xyxthumbs

I`m going to put the second coat of Nu Finish on Saturday morning. So I can do another shine comparison and then test the durability.

I still can`t get over how little effect the Blackfire had on the Toyota. I think I will try a coat of wax over it to see if I can get the results I hope for.
