View Full Version : Cannot find 1500 grit sandpaper - is it ok to use 1000?

Hi guys in my country I went to a few shops to find for 1500 grit but all told me 1000 is the highest ... cannot seem to find higher ... is it okie to use 1000 for wetsanding as I am touching up a paint chip...

I`ve seen 2000 in some auto parts stores. Try checking a body shop or paint company.

You really want to use 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper. You didn`t mention this, but make sure you get wet/dry sandpaper, the dark grey stuff. If all you can find is 1000 grit, then here`s an alternate solution. Cut the sheet into fourths and then take one of those pieces and cut it into half to create 2, one eighth, pieces. Take these 2 one eighth pieces and sand them against each other until they feel about as smooth as your finger tips.

The 1000 grit paper will work fine but I would suggest you look over this link http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000417.html , the best method is to let the paint dry for at least a day so the paint has had time to totally dry.

How long do you all usually rub on the paint b4 it flattens out? Just a rough estimate
