Long story short, my 01 VW Jetta in Cool White got a small scratch from the dealership yesterday (brought it for a coilpack, you VW guys with the 1.8T know what I am talking about:), anyways it is on the front bumper, about a 1 and 1/2" to 2", and it is not deep at all, you can barley feel it with your fingernail, it is just a minor surface scratch. So me being a newbie, what should I use/do ?

Thank you so much for any info:)

If you can feel it, it`s beyond detailing repair. You`ll have to fill with touch up and wetsand to fix.

You CAN minimize it by using something like Scratch-X, but it won`t all go away.

I am curious as to why they won`t fix it if they did it. Are they denying that they did it? Or are they saying scratching your car is a necessity of auto maintenance? :argue

Tusin,

Do you have zero deductible Comprehensive insurance ("other-than-collision")? If so, report it to your insurance company and tell them where it happened.

They`ll either get the dealership to pay up; and if they don`t, confirm that your state is like mine where comprehensive is not experience-rated (won`t affect your rates or coverage) and take advantage of your insurance at that point.

Actully they are saying they didnt do it, they SAY that they are not responsible blah blah blah.

Also I do have acouple of marks in my paint but they are not scratches, what would I use to get those out?

Ohhh yeh, and I have $100.00 comprehensive deductable.

Do not even think about going through insurance to fix that. By the time you pay the deductable you would have paid more than what it costs to fix the repair. Do it yourself, or look for a paint chip specialist in your area.

Well I tried some scratch-x on that scratch, and you know what, you can still feel it kind of, but I would pay you if you could find it, after I did used it, I had a hard time finding it right then, and then after I went inside and came out to look at it again, I just cant see it, so that works for me:)

Usually, before a service visit, a service advisor walks your car with you and makes note of every ding and scratch already there. I make it a habbit of asking for this even if they don`t automatically do it (which they usually do). For my car it`s easy.....I just tell them and show them that I have ZERO dings and scratches!

I would talk to the service manager about this. Tell him you are very dissappointed that this happened and how you were treated. Even though you were able to remove this scratch this time, tell him you worry about what might happen next time. You could write a letter to get it on record.....to the general manager and parent company. If you are seeking damages, put it in the letter.

If the service manager blows you off, and you are not seeking damages now that you removed the scratch, I would just give them a poor CS survey, and find a new dealer to take your car to.

I would not get a panel repainted for a scratch like that unless it was really deep. Aftermarket paint is never the same........

What DETAILKING said :xyxthumbs

We`ve been discussing the "damage by shop/dealer" topic on a few threads now; it seems to be a widespread problem...

Tell them not to mess up your car. If they mess it up, have them fix it. If they don`t/won`t fix it, inform the owner why you`re taking your business elsewhere. I feel so strongly about this that it`s even been a factor in what cars we buy. Just can`t get certain marques serviced around here without damage, dealership/shop owners don`t care if they lose the business (and even tell you so outright).

Tusin- Glad to hear the Scratch-X worked out for you. What are the other "marks " you mentioned?
