Hi there,

When you detail your/other peoples car, what is your finishing touch?

What makes your friends/customers think "Wow, what a great job, he even did....!".

I was think about having some of the tree-type air fresheners specially-printed with my name and phone number. Could have some with a leather smell for leather-interior`d vehicles and some "new car" smell ones for other cars.

Cheers,

Face

Basically I strip down to nothing but a microfiber thong. It makes the customers go "WOW, He`s really dedicated to making sure his clothing doesn`t scratch my car."

At least that is what I think they say :nixweiss

I think the tree thing would be a neat idea but might cost a good amount. I`m not too sure about the smell though. Some people don`t like a scent in their car. I usually ask customers if they want me to spray something in their vehicles. I like sprays better than throwing little scent things in a vehicle too. I only carry three spray scents though. Well, two really aren`t scents. I carry an orange scent simply because I use it in my truck. Some customers like it. I then carry Pro`s Odor-Nox (odor absorbant) and then Pro`s Smoke and Odor Eliminator (Enzyme). Both have their own unique smells but leave a clean scent in the car. Most people prefer the Smoke and Odor Eliminator Smell.

Maybe see if you can get some candy or maybe ink pens or something with your name, etc. printed on them. Well, printed on the label of the candy... not on the candy... :D

Just do it like the casinos do. The more they spend, the more you give. I would give the customer a free microfiber towel to keep inside the car. Get the ones from Walmart or Dollar Tree. (keep the good ones) I would also get some small squirt bottles and give them some QD or Air freshener. A small hand written thank-you note would probably be much appreciated as well.

Why would anyone give thier valued customers a cheap MF towel? If you car about them give them a good one- Ranney sells them to Autopians at $2 a pop.

One BMW service dept I went to gave me a handwritten card along with BMW branded mints. The mints were generic, but they were wrapped in BMW logo`d thing with that specific service dept.`s name and number on it. I thought it was a nice touch.

For something really inexpensive, get your company name and number printed on some of those paper floor mats that dealerships use to keep the service guy`s boots off your carpet mats.

I always grab a stack of them at the dealership and put them in the driver`s floor when I valet or whatever.

Or what about one of those stickers to put in the upper left on the inside of the windshield with your brand and number along with the date of last detail? That would be a great reminder!

I am quite sure that Ranney sells a finer product, but there is nothing "cheap" about the Walmart or Dollar Tree towels besides price. If you do a search, you will see that many people here are quite satisfied and surprised with the plushness and quality of the above mentioned towels.

You should check them out yourself before making an unfair judgement about their quality. They are "good" towels. Your customer won`t be disapointed by any means.

Perhaps I should have said "keep the expensive ones" instead of "keep the good ones".

How do we know? Has anyone done a side-by-side test?

(Actually, Nagchampa, we`re in VIOLENT agreement, you just had the best line to quote).

If anyone is interested, here`s an impression from a relative newcomer -

THERE`S TOO MUCH SNOBBERY IN HERE! EXPENSIVE IS BETTER???

Maybe, at times. But let`s base conclusions on facts and not on cost. Nobody has yet proven that the WalMart towels are inferior to ANYTHING. There have been reports of namebrand MF towels causing scratches in certain batches. We have yet to see anyone report that from WalMart.

Thank you.

:angry Guys, if you have beef, make sure you quote accurately instead of semi-editing quotes to fit your liking...

like, say, if you have one sentence and delete the rest of the post, don`t keep the last sentence from said post just to make it sound like something its not.

and, HTH did this become a sudden MF-brand war and n00b bashing post anyways?

A Mod should just close this thread.

Then Faceman can start another one.

I think I was misunderstood. This has nothing to do with brand or price. I didn`t mean to imply that the WalMart or DollarTree towels are not good.

What I mean to bring up is that when someone says give your customer the WalMart or DollarTree towels, and "keep the good ones" it sounds like they are suggesting that they ought to give their customer something LESS than what they will keep for themsleves.

So I have to question why you`d want to give your customers anything less than you`d want for yourself. Is that the kind of service that keeps them coming back for more?

Just my $.02.

Thank you, JC....., I think someone is finally seeing my point (and probably expressing it a lot better).

Let`s take this one step further. Assume that you have two MF towels in your hands, one a generic for less than a dollar, the other a brand name for over 2 dollars. After you take the tags off (you certainly don`t want your customers to scratch their cars with the tag) and, just for good measure, you confirm that they both pass the CD test. Is one now any better or worse to give your customer just because the cost was different?

Feel free to rephrase this as well. You seem to get it.

Thanks.
