Levels in Concours

Are there a set of standard levels for a concours event? And what is the requirements for each level?

Each Concours is different. But JCNA. Jaguar Concours North America, does have a pretty rigid set of criteria by which the cars are judged and that is really what you want.



You can get a score sheet with a list of exactly what is judged on the car and a list of exactly what the minimum and maximum point deduction is for any particular defect might be. Dirt, rust, dent, chip, scratch, non-authentic, etc.



Then there are rule books to spell out all the "grey areas" so if there are questions you look it up.



These, of course are for concourses that are car-specific and judged by actual elected judges who are normally schooled in the cars they are looking at.



"Popular choice" car shows ar a different matter and it just comes down to showmanship and pleasing the eye of the guy looking at your car. It`s a different ball game. The rules, if any, are different at every show.

Here is the judging manual for the Z Car Club of America (ZCCA) that judges most of the concours 300ZX shows. It should give you some pretty good ideas of the class breakdowns and what specifically the judges are looking for.

I really like the way the judging sheets are laid out.



100 pts each for Interior, Exterior and Engine Bay.



Then 10 categories at 10 points each within each major car area.



I`m sending a copy of this to our National Pontiac Grand Prix Club president to let him know that it`s better than our system! Maybe we will make some changes......



Our Annuual National Grand Prix event is in September in Kansas City - lots of controversy about judging being subjective, rather than objective.)

For the Porsche Club (Zone 8 - CA, NV, AZ) you basically have 3 types.



Wash and Shine - Inside and Outside judges

Street - Inside, Outside, Trunks and Engine

Full Concours - everything



Street is the division most hotly contested.....after all, Porsche`s are meant to be driven!



Only in full concours are you allowed to trailer the car in.

Jaguar Clubs North America has "Concours" and "Driven".

Concours judges the whole car including the engine and boot (trunk). Driven excludes the engine compartment, which is the toughest part, and the boot.



They also have a "Presorvation" class which is a class for cars which have never meen restored. This means the cars may be a bit a bit older and tattered but they have never been touched since day one from the factory. We see some interesting finds here. This is a controversial clas and not too many show here.



There is also a "Competition" class for race cars.



And a "Modified" class for custom cars. Yes, there are customized Jags.
