I have a 6 inch Porter Cable velcro backing plate.
What is the life span of these backing plates or any backing plates for the PC in general?

Marty- Well, there are LOTS of variables, but you`ll probably get at least a few years out of it. I think I`ve replaced mine twice, getting about 3-4 years each time. But it wouldn`t hurt to have a spare on hand, as when it goes it can happen rather abruptly (not like a small problem that worsens over time) and then you`re doing it all by hand until you get a replacement.
