Was out washing my Jeep today and noticed that due to the stones put down on the roads for traction (in snow) that there is a lot of paint missing. On the rear fender flare, the portion closest to the door was all the way down to the plastic. The lower edge of the doors had a few chips, but not quite as bad as teh rocker panels and the flares.

We had a Rolls Royce that had some kind of dull heavy paint in there areas. Anyone know what that is? I am looking for something like that. Something that is either clear and can go over a repaint, something that can be painted over, or something that will match the silver paint fairly close. The idea is to protect those areas with teh chips so they won`t chip.

I think most of the paint mfr`s offer a stone chip protection product that can be painted onto your car. I believe that`s what you saw on the Roller.

Look at this 3M website for a DIY solution:

A body shop can touch up the chips and apply a protective coating to protect the area.

Another option is to apply a protective film onto the vehicle. There are DIY solutions for this too:

Hope this helps.
