I try and detail my moms car using Meguires Gold Class, but i want to know how to get rid of the fine scratches and swirls that I see as well as prolong the life of the glossy shiney look. All I do now is just wash the car, dry it, and then apply the wax. Anything I should do before or after? enlighten me, new to this stuff so share your ideas :wavey

Welcome to Autopia :wavey

Your question is pretty broad and not easy to provide a complete answer without writing a book. So I highly recommend your purchase the Autopia Guide to Detailing. You can find it at www.autopia-carcare.com . It will help you greatly in deciding what products to use and how to use them properly.

Well its a 97 ES300 Lexus and I`am looking at some ways to remove swirl marks and scratches and provide protection for the paint without a PC or a rotary, just by hand. I will take the Autopia Guide to Detailing into consideration, might seem very helpful. :bow

You might want to try Meguiar`s. #9 swirl remover. It`s in a tan bottle . It`s part of the professional series. I plan on doing this tomorrow on my wife`s car. I going to do a #9 followed by Gold class. I never used gold class so this will be a test for me.

I usually do a #9 followed by a #7 followed by #26 if I do a 3 step process. I also use a PC7424.

#9 is not going to do much if you use it by hand, it`s a very mild product. Like bretfraz i recommend the Autopia Guide to Detailing, the first 8 chapters are free.

my budgets around 100 dollars. I came up with a list that fits the price:

shampoo: P21S

Wheel Cleaner: P21S

Tire Dressing: Eagle One

Glass Cleaner: Stoners

Clear Plastics: Plexus

Swirl Mark Remover: 3m Perfect-it SMR

Wax: Meguiars #26

and some microfiber towels, waterblade, and 100% cotton towels

Im not trying to do just the paint I`m trying to get every part of the car detailed, If you feel some products are better than the ones I listed tell me what you think. I was thinking of adding clay, but I didnt know which clay you guys recommend. (note: the cars never been clayed before)

Try to find a Harley shop around you and see if they sell S100. It is the same wax as P21S for basically half the cost. If you want to clay, a locally available clayis Mothers or maybe Clay Magic. They are both good clays.
