Avatar Help...Why can`t I Do This!?

Sheesh, you`d think with a kickin` computer and Photoshop 7.0 and the knowledge of how to use it I could get a simple avatar to load up......but noooooooooo!



Seems all I get is:



"The file that you have tried to attach is too big. The maximum size is 7800 bytes."





IT`S NOT! I swear! I`ve shrunk the silly thing down to 75 px x75 pxs @ 72 dpi and jpeg`d it all the way down to 3 and still it says it`s too big..........it ain`t!



All I want is a little avatar :confused:



Can someone hold my hand through this process and help me feel complete?!! :nixweiss

What picture are you using? Maybe if you post it or link it then someone can shrink it down to where it will fit. You can have 100 X 100 size picture. The file size is usually the problem.

That`s the problem! I can`t post it!!



I can shrink the file size down to almost nothing in PhotoShop but when I try to bring it in to Autopia it still says:





The file that you have tried to attach is too big. The maximum size is 7800 bytes.

Shrink it down to be within the allowed 100 X 100 size and then choose the option "Save for Web". See which quality you can save it at that will let you be within the 7800. Unless you`ve tried that already....



Something else that I`ve found works really well is to upload it to an MSN photo album. When you are viewing the photos in thumbnails you can copy the thumbnail size and use it as an avatar. You don`t even have to do the shrinking. The size that MSN shrinks it to in order to be a thumbnail is just right. I can do that for you if you want. It takes just a couple minutes.

Like a good little Autopian (or aspiring-to-be-good), I did a search to try to solve my avatar problem. Eureka! Here`s the thread.



Lynn weally, weally wants Jag avatar!! Finally found one I like. Cropped it; sized it down to 100x80-something; chose a 4 quality level; saved; tried uploading -- file too big: 12k! (How can that be??) Tried other variations on this. Still no go.



So ... at the risk of imposing on my Autopian neighbors, I`ve uploaded it to my gallery, hoping somebody might be willing to Photochop it to under-7800 size. (Cropping out the sky & bonnet if that would help.) Any volunteers?
