I was doing some detailing yesterday, and wanted to go at my hood with some FCRC for some stubborn clear coats marks... Anyways, I figured why not clay first, since I NEVER have before.

I had picked up some clay magic from autozone a week ago, so I was ready to go. Car was freshly washed. I followed the steps using the lube liberally, and claying about a 2x2 area or so. i felt NO resistance whatsoever, anywhere on the hood.... and saw pretty much nothing in the clay when i was done.... :nixweiss

Did I do something wrong, or did my hood simply not need claying possibly? I mean, the hood has been SMRed, and I have used some cleaner waxes at times.... and the car is garaged at night.

Thoughts?

One reason we clay before polishing is to prevent rubbing in any contaminates. Since you washed, SMR then washed again, your surface was very clean before attempting to clay.

Clay the misunderstood surface prep.
