I have always used 100% cotton towels to detail my car, so I am new to microfiber towels. I ordered some mf towels from pakshak. I hope they are as good as everyone says they are. My question is the following. Why do they not cause swirls, if they are polyester? I have always been told to make sure the towels do not have polyester in them because the will scratch. Will the cheaper mf towels from say walmart cause swirls?

Something that needs to be remembered is that anything can cause swirls if used improperly. I don` t know why MF towels are so good. Its just one of those things that is and I can`t explain it. I know someone will answer though. I just wanted to comment on the swirling.

There are several reasons MF towels are good. The fibers are so small and there are so many of them per square inch that it allows a very "even and constant" pressure against the surface. There are no hot spots of uneven pressure that can be a greater risk of scratching and swirls. You can feel this plushness.

The fibers and loops also have "hooks" that pull and hold debris into the towel and away from the surface of the towel away from the paint. This makes it less likely to scratch.

Even though it`s partly polyester, it`s the size of the fiber that matters. MF fibers are thousands of times smaller than cotton fibers and very soft and pliable. Microfiber towels are manufacturer approved to clean delicate plastic camera and eyeglass lenses.
