Well, tommorow I am going to be doing my final major detail before winter (weather permitting) and have a couple n00b questions here -

What combination of waxes would work best ?

1. 1x NuFinish with 2x #20 as a topper

2. 2x NuFinish

3. 1x NuFinish with 2x #26 (leaves possibility of adding more layers)

4. 1x #20 with 2x #26

Im hesitant to rely on #20 which I have no experience with. NuFinish has proven to work well on other cars ive done, but are there better choices?

I would say option 4 or option 1 is the best bet. I haven`t used #20, but so many talk about how durable it is. I use #26 but recoat too often to test its durability. After reading the Wax Test I don`t think NuFinish`s durability is all it`s cracked up to be, and I have a bit of experience so far with it.

I`m using NuFinish on part of my parent`s van, and it`s only holding up so-so after 2 months and I feel it`s due for a re-coat soon (maybe tomorrow). Hopefully that`ll take it through winter.

Go with option #4, the #20 alone will last all winter. #20 has some cleaning power and i think it would remove the NuFinish if you try to layer it on top.

Thanks guys, I decided to go with a variation of #4. Gonna do 1x #20, then do another application on top of it only on the hood and buff out to see if there is any difference. I doubt there will be because it has a mild cleaner in it.

therefore, I think this combination is what Im going to go with

1x #20

2x #26

Ill let you all know how it turns out!

ended up doing 2x #20 to ensure 100% even coverage and then topping it with a coat of #26. Leaves my options open so if the weather clears for a day, I can add another coat of #26 and still have #20 as a backup for when the carnuba wears off!

thanks for your help!

I`ve read a couple threads about #20, and you guys are making it sound like it has the cleaning power of a rubbing compound. Seriously, how clean strong are these cleaners? Could it be used as a cleaner wax as a one step thing?

#20 can be used a cleaner wax, but only for mildly dirty paint. It doesn`t have the cleaning ability of a good cleaner wax, like say, Mother`s cleaner wax. But for minor smudges and that sort of thing, it`ll work.

from a fellow michigan resident let me just say this: for the winter we had here last year, and prior to my Zaino use, I got 5-6 months out of 2x #20 (yes it does make a difference, just not "visually" noticeable), 2x #26, and 1x Gold Class Liquid (I had some I needed to use up.... guarantee it didnt help/hurt anything much).

i live in michigan also, and im gonna be putting about 2 coats of blackfire on my finish once i get rid of the #26 on my paint. I definitely would make sure you get #20 or blackfire and apply 2 coats of it to the paint and a coat of #26 as a topper for more shine!!!
