Hi, I have a 2003 Toyota matrix and it has a full SS exaust system (the only thing is i`m not sure about the exaust tip, this could be crome plated).

Anyhow, 3-4 days after delivery, the tip started to rust slightly (so far it`s only surface rust). Somebody suggested that I use a little bit of steel wool and windex to take off the rust. The only problem is that it will come back.

Now, I`m curious how hot the exaust tip gets during normal driving? after I scrub off all the rust, can I wax the tip to stop it from rusting again or will I just end up with a mess of melted/burned wax the first time I drive the car? I was thinking of using some pure canuba wax (either mothers or mequires that i have on hand).

I have heard of aplying Klasse AIO to steel wool to both safely remove the rust and protect it from further damage. Use an acylic based product if you are worried about heat, I think Klasse is rated to 400°.
