Well, someone left a present on the Blazer a few weeks ago, and I had a chance to tackle the problem this weekend.

The scratches range in length from about one inch to four inches. They felt rough to the touch, and I really did not think I had a chance to repair them without a trip to the body shop for some paint.

Here is a before picture with the damage:

I used a Meguiars yellow softbuff foam pad and Meguiars DACP. I started at a setting of 4.5 and worked the DACP until it was starting to dry out. I then went to 6 and worked it until nearly dry. I removed it with a MF and then topped with American Shine wax (this was the first chance I had to try out the wax).

After:

I still cannot figure out what caused these scratches. It sort of looks like someone set something down and then slid it off.

Now if I could only get rid of the stone chips!

Good job. Simply amazing.

The shine from the "American Shine" also looks great. I have some samples to test but with the water restrictions here it has been difficult to wash the daily drivers.

Wow, great job laynlow! Looks like new. :xyxthumbs Interesting study on the strength of DACP with a cutting pad too.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

4DSC,

Remember I used the Meguiars yellow pad, which is their polishing pad. It`s confusing because CMA`s yellow pad is a cutter, but not Meguiars. The results were just the DACP and whatever little cutting action the polishing pad had.

Doh! You`re right - the Meguiar`s cutting pad is maroon coloured! :doh The funny thing was I actually thought about it and then decided to reverse it when I typed. :p

And doesn’t that American Shine Wax smell good too? Kind of like bubble gum. Works good too.
