Storing your detailing stuff

Good Morning Everyone,



I unfortunately don`t have a garage and very limited storage space. I do have a large driveway where I can detail my car.



My problem is storing all my detailing stuff. I have a PC and a myraid of pads for it. Several bottles of cleaners, polishes, and waxes. I also have numerous towles, both cotton and MF.



I`m trying to find a portable storage solution which will allow me to house the stuff I use most frequently. I`d prefer something with wheels and a handle since I live in a walk in apartment in a private house.......landlord lets me detail my car in his driveway as long as I care to his car as well....no prblem!



Any suggestions? How do you guys & gals store your towels so that they don`t get dusty? I`m envisioning 2 separate store containers.



One for my towles with 2 compartments to separate the cotton from the MF, and a second to store the PC, pads, and bottled products.



Also.....how do you store your pads. I have mine in plastic and face down like pancakes...take up mucho room though!



Any thoughts would be helpful.

Normally if you rent a house you get everything attached to the house.....I`m renting a 1 bedroom basement walk in....so I don`t get everything attached to the house.......he does.



Finding a house in NYC to rent is not easy and when you do it will cost you an arm and a leg.



He does allow me to keep my car in the driveway behind his to keep it off the street. For what I pay in rent....very little compared to other places...I don`t mind.

Rubbermaid has a tote that has 2 wheels on it. You would have to build some partitions in it to separate everything but it is pretty mobile too.

You could also look into getting a large chest or cabinet that you could bolt to the house or into the driveway, if the landlord would allow you to do that.

Amen, brother! I live in the Boston area, it is also a nightmare. Would you believe for the first 6 months I parked my brand-new Porsche on the street! Did the landlord offer her driveway? Nope--she immediately raised my rent $200!



Now I park in an uncovered parking lot in a condo complex. I detail really early in the morning because for some reason I`m afraid of people seeing me and raising jealousy and anger in them. At least it is better than the street!



Just as an FYI for most Americans who live in a reasonable part of the country, a starter house in a distant suburb with a bad roof and 1,200 square feet is about $300K and up!

george............................................ .....................dont get me wrong i was brought up in queens for 25 years.I had a house and was a landlord i went out of my way to make them feel confortable and yes i had a studio i rented out also let the guy use my driveway and he gave me a set of keys.When he had a girlfriend she lived there also and i didn`t say a word as long as they were quiet. never asked him for anything

That roll-around storage container looks great. Its size(19w21v42h) is very usable. It should do the trick for those that want to keep all their detailing products in one container.:up

I use a plastic container with lid for my clean MFs and PC pads... It`s compact enough to carry where needed, and large enough for about 25 MFs, some other towels, and some pads... You can find similar containers at walmart, loews, odd job, target, etc....



For your detailing supplies and a "rollable" solution, check out griot`s garage... They had a nice rolling unit made of canvas, although at $38 it was a bit on the expensive side.

You can get those rubber maid buckets for pretty cheap at Target. I`ve got a couple of em. now that I have a garage my trunk is empty at last. However, when I had to keep everything in my trunk I used those buckets. I kept my towels in my wash bucket and just took them out when I needed to use the bucket. I kept the dirty towels for engines and wheels in the bucket too, but not at the same time as the MF towels and I definatly didn`t put the MF towels back in there before I had cleaned out the bucket. If you have a good sized trunk then you can get it all arranged in there pretty nicely. You just have to have the buckets.

For towels I put MFs in large Ziplock bags..they have 1 and 2 gallon sizes...For cotton towels I put them in large garbage bags



All this is to keep them dust free and keep em clean till I use them.

your trunk looks like my subaru out back`s.except my mf are on the backseat.refing and deleating.mf in large plastic bag. & thank god for rubbermaid .rubber maid alsomake a 6 gallon wheeled wash bin with plastic cover for 60.00 bucks every coner of my house has bins after you pic i dont feel so out there. 1 bedroom apt. & carport .no washing allowed so i`m working on using a trombone sprayer {for trees & shrubs) that will spray car foam on my car at the coin -op wash-thouchless in paciifica ca

Since I only detail out of my garage I do not haul my stuff around in my trunk but... Wouldnt the heat in the summer and cold winter in the trunk hurt the products?

I didn`t put on the wheels, the cart is by the stairs of my garage where it leads to the house.



I added an additional box to the top where I keep my MF towels (in ziplock bags) with my new fake "100% Cotton" towels.



In the bottom drawer, I keep all my chemicals, wash, polish, dressing, cleaners, stuff like that.



In the top drawer, I have two small shoe boxes. I keep my applicators in one and brushes in another box. These two boxes hang over the top of the drawer. Underneath the two boxes I put my new washmitts, sponges and the real cotton towels. I also put my PC pads here. My PC gets "royal treatment." It goes under my bed where it`s safe.



I put my CCD and CWB on top of the storage drawers. My buckets and gallon bottles of liquids are kept in the garage.
