We had some serious flooding the past week or so and my 9227C got soaked.... i air dried it for like 4 days and then I tried to run it...

It worked but... it couldn`t maintain its speed... kinda like a hesitating engine... 2000rpm-1200rpm-1800rpm kinda rotation...

What should I do?

I`m pretty sure it needs to be opened up, cleaned and relubed... but I need specific instructions... Thanks guys.

Don`t panic

you did a good thing to let air-dry

i know what has to be done ,

I`m just looking to translate the right name for the thing to be cleaned.

Hold on a minute (or two)

Thanks a mil Christian... :)

I`m glad that the buffer still worked (didn`t short out) but I can`t stomach the fact that my 1 month old rotary is busted... :( :( :(

My shop.vac got wet too, but it`s a wet/dry vac and it worked fine...

Here we go:

check this page first and print it out :http://www.makita.com/res_tools/pdf/parts_breakdowns/9227C.pdf

first remove the carbon brush (number 42) and with fine (400-grid)clean them

remove screws number 11: the whole body should come apart

with the same sanding paper clean item 6 where the carbon brush touch

reassamble

test

let me know

From the spareparts list I see that the bearings are sealed ones : so no need to re-grease

edit: screws number 16&17 are wrong,

should be 4 screws number 11

oops

Thanks Christian...

but... (sorry for leaving this out)

would it void my warranty if I open it up instead of sending it in for repair?

Just wondering... I`m itching to open it up and clean it up before it gets rusty...

Your info is very helpful...

BTW, what`s part 404 (Sleeve 18) for?

as for warranty:

this is not a factory malfunction

so I`m pretty sure that warranty will not cover this

but to be on the safe side : asking your dealer could never hurt, could it?

Hope I could be of any help

Christiaan
