View Full Version : Caring for alloy wheels

I am purchasing alloy wheels for my civic. i am curious how to take care of them as far as cleaning and protecting them. they are not paint ted or anything. product recomendations if you have them.

For the most part treat them like they are the paint on your car.....



Take care when washing and etc.



In lieu of wax I would use a polymer sealant since it can handle the high heat better.

Are the alloys clear coated? If so, use the polymer sealant or a product made for coated wheels - Mothers Clear Coat Wheel Polish.



If not coated, you`ll need an aluminum polish - Mothers, Wenol, Semichrome, Eagle-1, etc.



If you`re not sure the wheels are coated, rub a small amount of aluminum polish on a wheel. It should turn black. If it doesn`t, there is a clear coat on the finish.

as far as cleaning the wheels to get off brake dust and the such what should i use. i have p21s cleaner right now is that safe or is there something better to use.
