Would it be safe to get a fluffy, soft 100% cotton towel and cut it up and then stitch it into wash mitts? I`m having trouble finding these 100% cotton mitts locally, and it seems practical and cheaper to make them yourself, but I don`t want to do it unless I`m sure it`s safe. What do you think?

Sure, you could do that. I have been using the NAPA brand name cotton mits, they are not great quality but they don`t scratch my black car and clean good for me.

Be sure to use cotton thread for the stitching. If you are using a sewing machine, make sure that the bobbin has cotton thread too.
