What the heck do you use to somewhat easily remove tar?

A Prep-Solvent, 3M`s General purpose adhesive cleaner or Clay.

I use DuPont Prep Sol (it`s available at auto body supply shops...if they don`t carry Dupont, there are other automotive paint companies that make similar solvents.

I put mine in a spray bottle. I spray it on the area to be "de-tarred" and let it sit for a moment...then use a cotton terry towel (one of the old ones no longer suitable for polishing and waxing) to remove the tar. Sometimes you have to make more than one application, escpecially if the tar is "clumpy".

I use clay after the tar is removed to finish the cleaning process.

Just use Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover. Swipe across area with road tar, and instantly it will be dissolved...ask Lowejackson about it...:)

Works on plastic, rubber and also normal paintwork (without clearcoat).

Every tool box should have some WD-40. Works great as a tar solvent.:xyxthumbs

Stick with butyl based cleaners/solvents and that will do the trick!

I always keep a bottle of Skin-So-Soft in the garage. Takes the tar off like it was just plain dirt. Keeps the skeeters away, too! :D

most auto parts places carry "bug and tar remover" among their paint care products. I think the can I have is made by turtle wax.

I second the WD-40 trick, lightly applied to a soft cloth. It works well. Have to wax afterwards though.
