Well I detailed this blue 2000 VW jetta last saturday with my new PC. The car was badly swirled(always taken to auto carwashes) and had tons of minor key marks and finger nail scratches (owned by a female). Well I used FI2 with a yellow pad, then AIO with a white Pad, and then SG. I clayed with my garbage clay magic clay, which left me a smooth surface. Here are 2 before pics of the car...

here is after I was done with AIO with the white pad on the PC. I do believe it got most of the hazing caused by the FI2, but I couldn`t really tell because of the lack of light. http://www.mbworld.org/upload/2002/deswirl20.JPG

Great job Ali!! That was one of the best demonstrations I`ve seen of actually removing swirls from a badly swirled up car.

Sorry to hear about the Clay Magic. I saw your pic from the other thread. That is one sorry looking piece of clay there. I must admit that I was getting a good amount of residue on my hands as well....not nearly as much as you....but definitely more than I was getting with the Mother`s and Zaino bars. I thought CM did a better job at removing contaminants but the rubbery Zaino bar was much easier to work with.

Thank you for the wonderful comment Tony, My hands were so numb from the vibrating PC, lol. My final thoughts....

The PC is one hell of a tool, It got out all of those minor nicks around the door handle (with FI2 and yellow pad) and key marks. There are still some deep swirls in the paint, but I believe a few more SG layers will fill all the remaining swirls. I was so impressed with my work and she couldn`t believe that was her car! I got a 25 dollar tip she was so pleased! Well now I got invited back to do 2 more of their cars, woohoo! Thanks autopia!

Hi,

Just bought a black 2002 Jetta 1.8t (yes I got the Sport Lux pkg!) and want to keep this thing looking great. Would you mind filling me in on the various products/acronyms you mention in your post? Any advice would be appreciated too.

PC

SG Layers

F12 and yellow pad

A1O with white pad

Thanks!

you can find many definitions to the acronyms here...

http://www.autopia-carport.com/terms.htm

Also if you have a brand new jetta, you will probably not need to use as harsh of an abrasive as 3M FI2 = 3M Finesse-it II. Probably 3M SMR = 3M Swirl mark remover for dark cars and a PC = Porter Cable Polisher model # 7336SP with a white porter cable polishing pad from www.properautocare.com will be enough to take care of any swirls on a brand new 2002 vehicle. Follow up with a milder polish if needed, then apply your favorite wax (I recommend P21s or blitz) or a paint sealant if you want better durability(i recommend klasse or zaino). You can do a search on these paint sealants or waxes and will find many results on people`s opinions on them. good luck with your new car, post another question if you have one or PM me.

addendum: I highly recommend claying the car before starting, use a quality clay bar like pinnacle poly clay or Zaino Z18. I can`t really recommend clay magic after what happened to me.

02blackJetta1.8 - You can find most all of the acronyms on the acronyms page (see the main Autopia page and look on the left side).

In regards to:

PC - Porter Cable Random Orbital (7424 or 7336)

SG Layers - Klasse Sealant Glaze

FI2 and yellow pad - 3M Finesse It - II; Yellow Pad (a cutting pad from CMA for the PC)

AIO with white pad - Klasse All-In-One; White Pad (a medium cut from CMA for the PC)

I plan to go back and add more SG layers in a week and inspect if there is any haze.

Just one good round using Fi2 with yellow pad, using Geekysteve`s application technique(god bless that man :) ) and then I hit it with AIO with a white pad. If I had more time I would have hit it with megs #9 2.0 with white pad, I hope AIO removed the haze Fi2 caused. I am 96% sure it did, but I will repost later when I go back to check up on it.

you are very welcome 02BlackJetta1.8 :xyxthumbs
