I need to remove a hoodshield/bug deflector off of a new car. The ends are fastened down by a very strong 3M adhesive strip or something similar. The adhesive attaches on the undersurface of the hood for the most part, but does go out to the very edge of the painted surface of the lip edge. I`m worried that over the coming years, wind forces and constant traction on deflector could cause the adhesive to hurt the painted lip edge, so I want to try to seat a new adhesive strip farther under the hood. What can I use to loosen the adhesive so I can remove it without hurting the paint on the lip edge of the hood? All suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

3M makes an adhesive remover or use denatured alcohol which is safe on paint. Get it at the hardware store.
