Most of us do 3 different towel/mitt washes :

1- paintwork towels/mitts only

2- glass cleaning towels only

3- wheel/protectant/grease towels and mitts.

My question is what do most use to booost your detergent

to cut through the brake dust/oils/etc in the wheel/protectant/grease load?

I use Tide as my base detergent. Tide alone does not cut it.

I am no help -- unless you want to get a new washing machine.

I wash everything together with Tide in 175 degree water and 7 rinses, then spin at 1600 rpm.

Everything is clean, no cross contamination -- and I only have to do one load a weekend!

I bypass that problem completely, and use cheap bulk pack towels in the wheel/protectant/grease department. I use them and throw them out when they get too bad. Most can be reused/folded several uses.

Like RH, I also use "semi-disposable" towels for the really dirty jobs like brake dust. Target has a pack of 25 towels for $9.99. Use them 3 or 4 times, then throw them away. Hand wash with Dawn between uses.

For wheel protectant, I use an Eagle One tire swipe for a couple months then throw it away. I do not wash these out between applications. I use one of the "semi-disposable" towels for buffing off excess protectant.

My machine washing comes down to 2 loads - one for microfiber towels and one for non-microfiber items. The microfiber towels are only used for drying, quick detailing, and glass cleaning. The non-microfiber load includes chenille wash mitts and cotton terry towels used for removing cleaners and waxes.

I use Wisk Free and Clear detergent for the microfiber load and Tide with bleach alternative for the non-microfiber load.

I use Tide Free (about a 1/4 scoop), 1 full scoop of OxyClean and hot wash/cold rinse with extra rinse cycle. Works fine for me each time.

use oxi clean. Stuff works. just add it to a load, with detergent and it`ll cut anything.

I soak extra dirty towels. Put them in hot water and soap and let sit overnight or two.

I have used Purex and 20 Mule Team Borax to enhance the cleaning power. I use hot water to clean the white towels and my wash mitts. :D

You can find OxiClean on TV Infomercials as well as Costco, Publix, Walgreens, Eckerds, and maybe even dollar stores. I`ve also seen it at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

A 6 lb tub should run about $20. This tub should last you a pretty long time. I believe that you can find it online, too. Take a look here (http://www.greatcleaners.com/web/default.asp)
