Do you use the porter cable to both apply and buff or just buff?

I think the majority of Autopian use the Porter Cable to apply abrasives for swirl removal. Waxes and sealants can be applied with the PC, but I think most prefer to do that layer by hand.

showroom - do you mean they apply by hand then buff with PC, or do both by hand?

With carnuba waxes and sealants apply and remove by hand is the norm but not neccessarily the only way.

I use my DeWalt orbital (it is a dual action like the PC) and I use it for polishing and applying wax.

I use an orbital for abrasives and paint cleaners.

If the polish has abrasives then yes.
Manufacturers have not come to an agreement on terms so some polishes have abraseives while others may not.

I use my Porter Cable to apply polishes and cleaners. If I am applying wax or sealant I do that by hand.
