Has anyone applied SMR by hand? How did it go? If you are doing it by hand is there an eaiser product to use that will give the same basic results? I`m just curious. Some jobs I do don`t always allow me to use a PC because of not having the power outlet. I was just wondering if SMR could be applied by back breaking man power instead.

I have. Worked on my trunk for a half hour with SMR. My arm just about fell off. I was trying to remove some deep swirls put in by the dealer who sold me the car (it was a lease return). Result: many small light swirls removed, but none of the bigger/deeper ones were touched. Waste of time for anything but the lightest swirls, IMO. I am going to borrow my brother`s PC and give it another go soon.

If 3M SMR is too weak just step up to Auto International Clear Coat compound of 3M FI-II

Applying SMR by hand is a long process that will often leave you with alot of the swirls you started with. IF you can get your hands on a Porter Cable, use the white pad and cut your time down but alot. I only apply 3M around sharp curves and on the edges of my wing, basically where the Porter Cable can`t reach, and it`s still a long process.
